Susie’s Serpentine Necklace
This versatile and comfortable necklace is stitched using tubular herringbone with stations of various beads to create an slinky, undulating look. In this class you’ll learn how to take your tubular herringbone to the next level by using “increases” or “stitch in the ditch” techniques to add those special beads.
This piece is an original design by Laura Cole. Patterns will be distributed to participants who attend this class.
Technique: Tubular herringbone with increases
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
A basic working knowledge of herringbone stitch is required for this class.

Materials & Supplies Needed (approximate)
- 11/0 seed beads (main color; 6 grams)
- 11/0 seed beads (accent color; 5 grams)
- 8/0 seed beads (9 grams)
- 4mm round beads (24-32 pieces)
- 6mm round beads (12-16 pieces; for large stations)
- 6mm round beads (7-9; for small stations)
- single-strand clasp
You’ll also need fireline and a beading needle. An awl & thread burner not required, but are very helpful!
