Red Carpet Ruffle Bracelet

December 7 @ 11:00 am 1:00 pm

Red Carpet Ruffle Bracelet

I just love the way that netted ruffling always looks so much more complex that it actually is to stitch! This technique can be done in lots of variations, however this particular one is done on a flat-peyote base. You can really personalize your bracelet by choosing your width and how many or few accent beads you add. When one of our local beaders first took a look at the finished bracelet she exclaimed “This is so gorgeous I could see it being worn on the red carpet!” and so it got it’s name.

Please take note that I would like participants to make their base ahead of time so that we can concentrate on the ruffling technique while in class. See HOMEWORK below.

This piece is an original design by Laura Cole. Patterns will be distributed to participants who attend this class.

Technique: Even count peyote and ruffled netting

Difficulty Level: Intermediate
This piece is suitable for beaders who are comfortable with reading bead patterns and know many of the common stitches and terminology

Materials & Supplies Needed (approximate)

    • Size 8/0 seed beads (12-18 grams)
    • 3 colors of size 11/0 seed beads:
      • Color A – base of ruffle, does not show very much (5 grams)
      • Color B – mid part of ruffle, shows moderately (9 grams)
      • Color C – top of ruffle, shows very prevalently (10 grams)
    • A mix of 4mm beads as desired (50-100 pieces)
    • Multi-strand clasp in a suitable width for your chosen bracelet size

You’ll also need fireline and a beading needle. An awl & thread burner not required, but are very helpful!

Homework

Your base will be made using size 8 seed beads in even-count peyote. Start by picking up an even number of beads equal to the width you would like your bracelet to be. Here are two examples:

The gray version was started by picking up 10 beads initially for rows 1&2, then 5 beads for each subsequent row. It is approximately 1″ wide.
The beige version was started by picking up 14 beads initially for rows 1&2, then 7 beads for each subsequent row. It is approximately 1.25″ wide.

Continue stitching in even-count peyote until you get the desired length of your bracelet, minus the clasp. You can even attach your clasp ahead of time if you choose, however it is not necessary.
