Marla Salezze classes now taking registrations

We are very excited to be hosting the second designer to visit and teach classes at our new shop — Marla Salezze! She’ll be joining us on Saturday, December 1 for an entire day of beady fun. There will be a beginner class from her book in the morning (more copies are on the way for sale at the shop), a meet & greet book signing event midday, then an intermediate class from a kit in the afternoon. Read on for details:

Morning Book Class: “Dew Drop Lariat”  10:30-12:30

This lovely lariat is open in the center which makes for a wonderful rope that can easily be looped around your neck and adjusted to any length.

Difficulty Level: Beginner|  Technique: Tubular Netting |  Instructor: Marla Salezze

Cost: This class is generously being offered free of charge by Marla with your purchase of her book and the beads to make the project. Please note that this Marla is taking up to 12 students, so this class will be larger than the standard beginner classes at Laura’s Beads.

Pattern:  This pattern is featured in Marla’s book “Learn to Stitch Beaded Jewelry”. Be sure to bring your copy of the book to the class or you can purchase your copy here.

Book Signing and Meet & Greet  12:30-1:30

Afternoon Kit Class: “Druzy Daydream Necklace”  1:30-4:30

Show off this sparkly druzy cabochon with a patterned peyote stitch bezel. Create a dreamy tassel with leather and a channel bead end cap embellished with a decorative strip of flat peyote stitch. This is a mixed media project incorporating multiple techniques to make an on-trend statement pendant.

Students will learn how to capture a natural stone in a circular peyote beaded bezel. They will also learn how to bead around a blank channel bead and how to create a leather tassel. Students will learn how to connect these components using mixed media techniques, beadweaving and basic wirework.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate/Advanced |  Technique: Mixed |  Instructor: Marla Salezze

Cost: Class fee is $40 plus all students are required to buy Marla’s kit which will contain all the supplies that you’ll need for this project for $70. Two colorways will be available.

Pattern:  The pattern will be included in your kit

Venetian glass is here! Plus other new arrivals…

The Venetian Glass has arrived

These beads are absolutely stunning and as you can see from the photos, the selection is huge! This trunk show is only taking place for 3 days, October 18-20. We’ve put some projects on our calendar that can incorporate these beads just to help you with a little inspiration. They’ll make a gorgeous focal point for your tubular netting or viking knit bracelet, to put between your beaded beads. Don’t miss out on this unique shopping opportunity!

More New Products Recently Arrived

All of the following products are available both at our store and online

Amos par Puca Beads pair neatly with the Paisley Duos, as seen in the latest edition of Bead & Button magazine. There are several projects we’ve got our eyes on that use these flat, teardrop-shaped 2-hole beads, so keep watching.

We been wanting to stock 2mm Firepolish beads for quite some time, but space was our enemy. Not anymore!

Coming up next — a beautiful new line of “Fancy Color-Lined” Delica beads is lined up to be stickered as I write this, so stay tuned!

Upcoming Classes

We’ve also been busy adding classes to our calendar, but didn’t want to try to pack too much into one email, so we’ll send more details on those in the next couple of days. If you don’t want to wait, you don’t have to —  view all the details and sign up right on our website today!

Until next time, have a sparkling week and happy beading!

Grand Opening Party Tomorrow!

Saturday, September 29, 12-4 pm

We will have food, cake, door prizes and fun!

We are also excited to have Marcia Balonis, author of “Lush & Layered Beadweaving” joining us for a book signing event from 1-3. Marcia will be offering a couple of complimentary classes in the coming months for beaders who have purchased the book. We will have more details and begin taking registrations at the event, but spaces are limited and these classes will be first-come-first-served.

We hope to see you!

New Products Just In

The new products have been pouring in, however it will take us a little time to inventory everything, so watch for new goodies to be available a little at a time. This week we added:

  • Several more colors of Toho Demi-Round beads, which will be perfect for the Grand Duchess Bracelet (scroll down for details)
  • Mesh tubing which is perfect for putting inside Russian Spirals or Peyote with a Twist to give your piece a little more structure. We have both light and dark.
  • We also received the brand new book by Marla Salezze “Learn to Stitch Beaded Jewelry”, which is just perfect to beaders just starting out.

Keep watching as we continue to add new products everyday. We are particularly excited to introduce Amos par Puca and Paisley Duo beads in the next week or so. Enjoy!

Sessions Added to Calendar

Bead Circle (Intermediate Level):

“Basketweave Bangle” designed by Helen Roosa, featured on the cover of Beadwork Magazine, Oct/Nov 2018 Edition
Embellish and connect multicolored peyote-stitch panels to create this gorgeous bracelet that’s fit for royalty.

Intermediate Level Class:

Russian Leaves
Russian leaves are stitched using diagonal peyote. They can be a bit tricky to master at first, but once you’ve got the hang of it they can actually be quick work up. What you do with them next is up to you! You can make up something as simple as a pair of earrings as shown above, or stitch an assortment of them to a spiral necklace and make a much more detailed piece as shown below.

Perfect for Beginners:

“Crystal Boxes”
This sparkling bracelet is wonderfully simple to make! Stitch single-row right-angle-weave and ladder to create a base of connected squares made of bugles, then embellish with crystal bicones.

Basic Kumihimo with Beads
Kumihimo is the ancient Japanese art of braid making. You’ll learn how to interlace strands of cording on a disc, while dropping beads into position. If you’ve never tried it before, we’re sure you’ll enjoy this very unique form of beading!

“DNA” Spiral Rope
This Stitch Workshop will teach you how to create a beaded spiral rope. There are many types of spiraling techniques, however this particular spiral is often referred to as a “DNA” spiral because of the loops all rotating around a beaded core. This soft and flowing necklace is wonderful for combining with your beaded pendants, or to simply make a casual bracelet.

Laura’s Bead Addicts Membership Club

Laura’s Bead Addicts Membership Club

When we started Laura’s Beads over 6 years ago, it was our mission to keep the beading community thriving here in Pasco county after Lynne closed her shop. We set out to make beading an affordable hobby for anyone who was interested, while also creating a space for socialization, enjoyment and creativity. We priced most sessions at only $5, which is a fraction of what classes would typically cost at other shops.

Unfortunately with everyday costs going up and our session sizes being smaller than they used to be, we’ve reached the point where we realize we have to increase our session prices to keep ourselves viable. However, being the creatively minded people that we are, we’ve come up with a solution…

You will have two options when you attend sessions starting July 21:

  • You can pay for your class or bead circle on the day of the session when you arrive, as you have done previously, at the cost of $9 per session OR
  • You can become a member of the new Laura’s Bead Addicts Membership Club and have the opportunity to still enjoy the $5 per session rate

How will the club work?

  • A club membership will cost $40 and be worth 8 sessions
  • You will receive a stamp card that can be used on either classes or bead circles as long as the normal price of the session is $9
  • The card will have an expiration date that is 3 months from the date of issue, giving you plenty of time to take full advantage of your membership and use all 8 sessions
  • Memberships are not transferable and cannot be shared
  • Each membership card includes a coupon for 20% off one item that can be redeemed when you get all 8 of your stamps by the expiration date

We felt that this solution provides a real benefit to those who come and bead with us on a regular basis. When you purchase a membership card, you actually start saving money per session as soon as you’ve attended at least 5 of your 8 sessions!

The entire team of Laura’s Beads thanks you for your continued support and for making this such an enjoyable place to be!
